I was invited to present “Delay Tolerant Networking to Extend Internet Coverage Using Informal Public Transport Systems: Design and Analysis” at the Workshop on Empowering Connectivity: Bridging Space and Earth with DTN, held at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy (September 22–26, 2025).
The workshop brought together researchers and practitioners working on delay-tolerant networking for both space and terrestrial applications, including Vint Cerf (Google), Scott Burleigh (co-creator of the Bundle Protocol), and my PhD advisor Prof. Mohamed-Slim Alouini (KAUST), among others. My talk was a case study on using informal public transport as a low-cost, store-carry-forward relay network to extend Internet-like connectivity to underserved communities, based on joint work with Dr. Marco Zennaro (ICTP) and Prof. Mohamed-Slim Alouini (KAUST).
